India Post Revises Speed Post Charges After 12 Years: New Rates and Services from October 1, 2025

This is the first major hike in 12 years, since October 2012. Alongside the price revision, the postal service is also introducing several new features to improve safety, convenience, and digital integration.
Why Have Charges Been Revised?
According to the Ministry of Communications, the operating costs of Speed Post have risen significantly in recent years due to inflation, infrastructure maintenance, and investments in modern technology. With growing demand for digital services, the government says the new rates are designed to keep the service sustainable and efficient while matching current industry standards.
New Features for Customers
The revamped Speed Post service is not just about higher charges; it also brings additional facilities aimed at boosting security and ease of use:

Concessions for Students and Bulk Customers
In a bid to encourage usage, India Post has announced discounts:

Registered Post Merged into Speed Post
As of September 1, 2025, the Registered Post service has been fully merged with Speed Post. This means there will no longer be a separate registered post option—customers will get all services under the Speed Post umbrella.
