Due to the increasing tension between India and Pakistan, the threat of cyber attack is also increasing. The cybercrime wing of Hyderabad Police has warned the public that some cyber criminals and hackers are trying to trap people by taking advantage of this environment. These cyber attacks can target government agencies, army officials and government systems. Hackers are using phishing emails, fake login pages, videos and apps with viruses.

How does the attack happen?

Dangerous videos, photos, links and .apk/.exe files are being sent on WhatsApp, email and social media. These files come with names like live war updates app, Army_Job_Application_Form.pdf and tasksche.exe. They look real but contain a virus.

Many times, the link looks like a news channel or government website, but is not real. Your data can be stolen as soon as you click on it. Apart from this, some apps lock your phone as soon as they are downloaded and then ask for money.

Keep these things in mind.

People using WhatsApp and social media should not open videos, photos or files received from unknown numbers. Do not forward any suspicious message to anyone.

Download APK files only from the Google Play Store. Do not click on any link without thinking.

Immediately exit unknown and suspicious groups and report. Turn off Media Auto Download in WhatsApp.

Turn on 2-step verification for safety. Do not share any kind of OTP with anyone.

Email users should pay attention.

Do not open unknown emails. Do not download any link or attachment. Unless you are confirmed that the link is correct. Keep 2-factor authentication on in your email settings. Keep your antivirus updated and turn on the spam filter.
