Fake deduction claims made under Section 80GGC-

Section 80GGC of the Income Tax Act allows taxpayers to claim a deduction on donations made to registered political parties or electoral trusts. Sources say that many taxpayers are using fake bills to claim deductions under this section. Some taxpayers are claiming deductions on donations made to unregistered organizations. This is causing huge loss of revenue to the government.

Raids conducted after identifying 200 cases of fraud.

The Income Tax Department is tightening the noose on such taxpayers, accountants, and middlemen who wrongly claimed or assisted in tax deduction through fake bills. The department has identified about 200 such cases and conducted raids. It is being told that earlier, the department had sent several reminders to these taxpayers to file revised returns.
