Taxpayers are required to file income tax returns once in a financial year. In this, he tells about his income in the last financial year. Generally, the 31st of July in the financial year is the last date for filing an income tax return.

But, just filing returns is not enough. After filing the income tax return, it is important to verify it. Taxpayers can verify ITR online. Only after this, the return filing process is considered complete.

Process of e-filing-

To e-verify, you will have to go to the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department. On this, you will have to login through your user ID and password. Then you have to click on the 'e-file' menu and select 'e-verify return'. Then you have to enter your PAN. The assessment year has to be selected. The acknowledgment number of the ITI filing has to be entered. Then after entering the mobile number, you will have to click on Continue.

Many methods of e-filing-

There are methods for e-verification. You can do e-verification through OTP on the mobile number linked with Aadhaar. You can also do this through your pre-validated bank account. You can also e-verify through EVC through a pre-validated demat account. You can also do this work through EVC through ATM. If you use netbanking then this is also an easy process for e-verification. Finally, you can do this work through a digital signer also.

You can verify returns offline also-

Once the e-verification process is complete, you will see a success message. There will also be a transaction ID along with it. After that, a mail will be sent to your email ID from the e-filing portal. You need to know that e-verification is not the only method to verify ITR. You can sign ITR-V and send a copy of it to the Bengaluru office of the Income Tax Department.

Refund will come only after e-verification-

The government has not yet said anything about the last date of ITR filing in this financial year. Therefore it is believed that its date will be 31st July. This means that you have to file your ITR by this date. You should not wait until the last minute to file returns. However, if you are a salaried taxpayer, you will be able to file the return only after receiving Form 16 from the employer. It is important to note that if you file the return before July 31, you will get the refund sooner.
