The Income Tax Department has introduced a new form, 'Form 141'. Previously, individuals were required to fill out four separate forms to file Tax Deducted at Source (TDS); now, this can be accomplished using a single, consolidated form.

The Income Tax Department has simplified the TDS filing process by merging four distinct forms into one—Form 141. This allows individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) involved in specific types of transactions to report TDS details and complete the tax payment process through this single form.

This change has been implemented under the new Income Tax Act, 2025. Form 141 replaces the previously used forms: 26QB, 26QC, 26QD, and 26QE.

What is Form 141?

Form 141 is used for filing TDS. By consolidating four separate forms into one, the department has streamlined the procedure. This form is applicable to transactions such as the purchase of property (land or houses), payment of rent, payments made to contractors or professionals, and the transfer of digital assets, including cryptocurrencies.

Who is required to file Form 141?

This form must be filed in cases involving the purchase of property (land or houses), payment of rent, payments to contractors or professionals, or the transfer of cryptocurrencies and other digital assets. Notably, effective October 1, 2026, individuals or HUFs residing in India who purchase property from a non-resident seller can report the relevant TDS details using 'Schedule E' of this form. In such a situation, obtaining a TAN is not required for this process.

How to fill out Form 141 online?

Taxpayers can fill out the form by visiting the Income Tax Department's e-filing portal. To do so, they must log in using their PAN.

The form can be filled out online

The process for filling out this form online is as follows:

Log in to the Income Tax Department's e-filing portal using your PAN.
Select Form 141 and choose the applicable schedule.
Enter the details of the payer and the payee.
Provide information regarding the transaction, the TDS amount, and the tax deposit.
Review all the details and submit the form.
Please note that, as per the department's guidelines, the challan-cum-statement must be submitted within one month from the end of the month in which the TDS was deducted. It is also mandatory to deposit the tax amount within the prescribed timeline.
