TRAI's rule

The rule of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) regarding this keeps your SIM card active for a fixed period without recharge. All telecom companies like Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea, and BSNL have to follow this rule.

How long does a Jio SIM remain active?

Reliance Jio SIM card remains active for 90 days without recharge. Whereas, depending on the recharge plan, incoming calls can be stopped within a month or a few weeks. Still, if the recharge is not done, the SIM gets deactivated and is given to another user.

How long does an Airtel SIM remain active?

Airtel SIM card also remains active for around 90 days without recharge. However, the user is given an additional 15 days so that the user can get a recharge done. If recharge is not done, the SIM gets deactivated and is given to another user.

How long does a Vodafone-Idea SIM remain active?

Vodafone-Idea SIM also remains active for 90 days; even after this, if recharge is not done, it is given to another user. To keep the SIM active, a recharge of at least Rs 49 has to be done.

How long does a BSNL SIM remain active?

BSNL can be kept active for a long time without recharging. BSNL SIM remains active for about 180 days. BSNL provides this facility to those who do not want to recharge again and again and just want to keep the SIM active.
