Important news for Greater Noida residents! Rules for water bill rebates will change from July 1..
If you live in Greater Noida, this news is particularly important for you. Today is the last day to avail a 40% waiver on interest under the One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme introduced by the Greater Noida Authority to provide significant relief to water charge defaulters. Consumers who clear their outstanding water charges by June 30 will benefit from this 40% interest waiver; the waiver percentage will decrease thereafter.
**New rules effective from July 1**
Sunil Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Executive Officer (ACEO) of the Authority, stated that a special OTS scheme has been implemented for three months following approval from the Authority's board. Under this scheme, clearing outstanding water charges by June 30 grants a 40% waiver on interest. Payments made between July 1 and July 31 will attract a 30% interest waiver, while those made between August 1 and August 31 will receive a 20% waiver. The scheme will conclude on August 31, after which no waiver benefits will be available.
**Outstanding water charges of ₹290 crore**
According to the Authority, outstanding water charges across various categories of allottees currently total approximately ₹290 crore. Builder societies account for the largest share of this debt, owing around ₹146 crore. Additionally, residential allottees owe approximately ₹65 crore, institutional allottees ₹50 crore, industrial units ₹14.61 crore, and residential societies around ₹10 crore; the remaining amount is owed by allottees in the IT and commercial categories.
**OTS scheme to provide relief to defaulters**
The Authority believes this scheme will provide relief to a large number of defaulters and accelerate the recovery of water charges. Officials have urged all consumers to clear their outstanding bills by June 30 to take advantage of the maximum 40% interest waiver.
