The government has introduced a major convenience for Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) pensioners. They can now submit their life certificate from the comfort of their homes using their mobile phones, eliminating the need to visit a bank.

There is good news for those receiving a pension under the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS). Pensioners no longer need to make repeated trips to a bank or pension office to submit their annual life certificate; they can now submit a digital life certificate from home using their mobile phones. The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has launched the 'UPS Jeevan Setu' digital life certificate facility for this purpose.

Through this facility, a life certificate can be generated and submitted using Aadhaar and face authentication. Let’s look at how you can submit your life certificate from home using this facility.

What is the 'UPS Jeevan Setu' facility?

Every pensioner is required to submit a life certificate periodically to prove that they are alive and remain eligible to receive a pension. Failure to submit the life certificate on time can disrupt pension payments. To address this issue, the PFRDA has introduced the 'UPS Jeevan Setu' facility.

A helpful facility for pensioners

This facility allows pensioners to generate a digital life certificate from home. They can verify their identity using their Aadhaar number and complete the verification process through face authentication. This enables the submission of the certificate without the need to visit a bank or pension office. This facility is particularly beneficial for elderly pensioners and those who face difficulty in traveling.

Submit your life certificate via mobile.

To use this, UPS pensioners need to download the 'NPS by Protean eGov' app on their mobile phones. You can then submit your life certificate by following the steps outlined below:

  • First, open the 'NPS by Protean eGov' mobile app. Select the 'UPS Jeevan Setu - Digital Life Certificate' option on the home screen.
  • Enter your Permanent Retirement Account Number (PRAN) and date of birth.
  • Verify your details using the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
  • Next, select the 'Aadhaar' option, enter your Aadhaar number, and click on 'Continue with Aadhaar'.
  • Verify your identity through face authentication by selecting the 'Face Authentication' option.
  • Once the verification is successful, the app will generate your digital life certificate.
  • Click 'Done' when the message confirming the successful generation of the certificate appears on the screen.
  • Following these steps, your digital life certificate will be easily generated and submitted.

It should be noted that UPS pensioners are required to submit their life certificate by November 30th every year. The PFRDA has clarified that timely submission of the life certificate is essential to ensure uninterrupted, guaranteed monthly pension payment. Therefore, pensioners should not wait until the last date and should complete this process well in time.
