IISc Bengaluru Launches 3 New Next-Gen BTech Courses: A Golden Opportunity for Admission via JEE Advanced
IISc Bengaluru Next-Gen BTech Courses: These new courses are designed for students who wish to prepare themselves to tackle future technical and interdisciplinary challenges.
IISc Bengaluru Next-Gen BTech Courses: The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru has announced the launch of three new BTech programs starting from the 2026 academic session. These new courses are designed for students who wish to prepare themselves to tackle future technical and interdisciplinary challenges.
IISc is now further expanding its engineering portfolio and aims to equip students with new-age skills and research capabilities. Admission to these new BTech programs will be based on JEE Advanced 2026 scores and conducted through the JoSAA 2026 counseling process.
Which New BTech Programs Has IISc Launched?
IISc Bengaluru has introduced three new undergraduate engineering programs starting from 2026. These include BTech in Materials Science and Engineering, BTech in Mechanics and Computing, and BTech in Aerospace Engineering. The objective of these courses is to enable students to innovate in interdisciplinary and future-focused fields. Students will be taught scientific fundamentals alongside practical engineering and computational skills.
How Will the Admission Process Work?
Admission to the new BTech courses will be based on JEE Advanced 2026 scores and conducted through the JoSAA 2026 counseling process. Previously, IISc's BTech in Mathematics and Computing program handled admissions through its own portal. Now, by including these new courses in the JoSAA counseling, the admission process will become even smoother and more accessible for all students.
Which Undergraduate Programs Did IISc Offer Previously?
IISc previously offered two main undergraduate programs: the Bachelor of Science (Research) and the BTech in Mathematics and Computing. Gradually, the institute has expanded its contribution to undergraduate education while maintaining its reputation in research-oriented education.
Why are these new programs necessary?
According to IISc, these new programs will prepare students to solve complex national and global problems. This curriculum emphasizes interdisciplinary learning and will encompass core engineering principles, basic sciences, computational and analytical tools, and modern technological applications. In the initial semesters, students will be provided with a strong foundation in mathematics, engineering sciences, and computational methods. A blend of research-oriented learning and practical engineering will prepare students to contribute effectively to both industry and research sectors.
What skills will students acquire through these courses?
IISc believes that students enrolled in these programs will develop strong analytical capabilities, advanced computational skills, problem-solving proficiency, a research-oriented mindset, and practical engineering knowledge. These skills will make students highly sought-after in fields such as aerospace, manufacturing, artificial intelligence, materials technology, and advanced scientific research.
JEE Advanced 2026
This year, JEE Advanced 2026 will be conducted by IIT Roorkee, scheduled for May 17, 2026. The top 2.5 lakh students in JEE Main 2026 will be deemed eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. Candidates must also fulfill the prescribed age criteria. It is mandatory to have passed Class 12—with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as subjects—in either 2025 or 2026; furthermore, a candidate may attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.
