If you're traveling home by train during Diwali or Chhath Puja, don't accidentally sneak items into your luggage. Otherwise, you could end up in jail instead of your village. Indian Railways has taken strict action against those traveling with such items. Teams are being formed to conduct raids, and action is being taken if caught. The Railways have appealed to passengers not to travel with such items.
According to Dilip Kumar, Executive Director, Information and Publicity, Ministry of Railways, the Railways is continuously striving for better train operations. Passenger safety and security are the Railways' top priority. The Railways are continuously monitoring to improve passenger safety.
Prohibited from Carrying These Items
During Diwali and Chhath, passengers are often seen carrying flammable materials such as firecrackers, stoves, and lighters. These are prohibited during rail travel and are dangerous and impact passenger safety. Even a small spark during travel can turn dangerous and cause significant damage to life and property. For this reason, Indian Railways is continuously conducting campaigns. Keeping this in mind, the Railways has placed warning stickers in all coaches, clearly stating the punishment for violating these rules.
Imprisonment and Fines
According to Sections 67, 164, and 165 of the Railways Act 1989, carrying flammable and explosive materials while traveling by train is a punishable offense. If passengers are found doing so, they face a fine of up to 1,000 rupees, imprisonment of up to three years, or both.
