**Mandatory HSRP Rule**
Installing a High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) on vehicles is mandatory. If your vehicle has an old or damaged number plate, you could face trouble, as HSRPs are now a requirement. Driving a vehicle without an HSRP or a plate that meets the prescribed standards can result in a fine ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000. A fine of ₹5,000 is imposed for a first-time offense involving an old number plate, while a repeat offense can attract a penalty of up to ₹10,000.

Under Rule 50 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR), installing an HSRP is mandatory. This requirement has applied to older vehicles as well since April 1, 2019. If your vehicle still has an old number plate, you should replace it with an HSRP immediately.
