India is an agricultural country, with more than 50% of its population dependent on farming for their livelihood. Therefore, the Government of India often launches various schemes to help farmers.

One such initiative launched by the Narendra Modi government in 2019 is the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, which aims to provide financial assistance to financially weak farmers.

Under this scheme, the central government provides annual financial assistance of ₹ 6,000 to farmers, which is distributed in three installments directly to their bank accounts through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer). More than 12 crore farmers have benefited from this scheme and 17 installments have been released so far.

Farmers are now waiting for the 18th installment. To ensure that you get the benefits of the scheme, keep these five things in mind:

1. Accurate bank details: When applying for the scheme, you will need to provide your bank details. Any discrepancy, such as misspelling your name or entering the wrong IFSC code, can cause problems in getting assistance. Make sure your bank details are accurate and match your account information.

2. Bank account linked to Aadhaar: Your bank account must be linked to your Aadhaar card before you register for the scheme. If your bank account is not linked to your Aadhaar, you may face difficulties in getting benefits.

3. Complete e-KYC: To get the benefits or even after applying, you will need to complete the e-KYC process. The government has issued guidelines for this. People who have not completed their e-KYC may face problems in receiving payments, as their installments may be delayed.

4. Land verification: Farmers who have not yet completed land verification under the scheme may face problems in receiving benefits. It is advisable to complete this process immediately.

5. One family, one benefit: Under the PM-Kisan scheme, only one member per family is eligible for benefits. If a family is receiving benefits in the name of one member, other family members, such as sons, will not be eligible. Make sure this criterion is met to avoid your application getting rejected.
