If you want to go to Srinagar, there is no need for advance reservation; go to the station, buy a ticket and board the train..
The next time you visit Mata Vaishno Devi, be sure to pack for Srinagar. Soon, you won't need to make reservations for Srinagar. Once there, book a Vande Bharat train and board the train to explore the valley's beauty. Indian Railways is making special arrangements that will delight you.
Indian Railways has made a significant decision to upgrade the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express. The current 8-coach rake will be expanded to 20 coaches. This upgrade is being done in response to high passenger demand, as the train has become very popular since its inception.
The increase in coaches aims to improve passenger convenience, provide more seats, reduce waiting lists, and meet the increased demand during peak seasons (such as the Amarnath Yatra and tourist season). Currently, the 8-coach train carries approximately 530-1,400 passengers daily. With 20 coaches, capacity will increase manifold (approximately 1,400+ passengers at a time). This will significantly alleviate the problem of waiting lists and confirmations. The train already runs from Katra to Srinagar and is now planned to be extended to Jammu Tawi. The 20-coach upgrade is expected to be implemented soon.
Train Features
Semi-high speed, a special heating system for cold weather (silicon heating pads in the water tank and bio-toilets), and a safe journey are attracting passengers. Over 3.75 lakh passengers have traveled on Vande Bharat trains in Jammu and Kashmir in the last six months. This upgrade will further boost tourism and connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir. The introduction of the 20-coach train will benefit tourists traveling to Srinagar; they will no longer need to make reservations.
