How can you exchange notes?
If you still have ₹2,000 notes, you can no longer deposit or exchange them directly at banks. The RBI's banking deadline for this has expired on October 7, 2023. You can now exchange these notes only at 19 regional offices of the Reserve Bank of India.
The RBI has given people the option to deposit the notes directly at these offices or send them to an RBI office via Indian Post to have the amount deposited into their account. This means that whether you have one note or several, it's still entirely possible to exchange them safely.
You can use legal tender.
Regarding the 2000-rupee note, the RBI has stated that while the 2000-rupee note is no longer valid for normal transactions in the market, it remains a valid legal tender. Legal tender means that the note's value has not dropped to zero.
This means it can be used to repay loans, clear dues, or for other financial purposes. However, shopkeepers and ordinary people cannot use it. If you have any 2000 rupee notes, it's wise to exchange them as soon as possible.
