Car Fitness Test Fee: The new vehicle fitness test fee in the country has increased according to the age of the vehicle. Now, older vehicles will cost more than before. Find out how much you'll have to pay now.

Car Fitness Test Fee: Almost everyone owns a car these days. Vehicles have become a basic necessity in life. But the cost of owning a vehicle was already difficult, and now the government has added another major change. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has increased vehicle fitness test fees across the country and tightened them based on age. Previously, vehicles over 15 years old were subject to higher fees.

But now this limit has been reduced to 10 years. This means that if your vehicle has completed 10 years, the fitness test will cost more than before. This change has come into effect immediately under the Fifth Amendment to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules. The new system categorises vehicles into three categories. 10 to 15 years, 15 to 20 years, and more than 20 years. The fee increases as the age increases. Find out how much you'll have to pay now.

Fitness test costs will increase after 10 years.

Under the new system, fitness test fees will increase upon completion of 10 years. According to reports, even vehicles under 15 years old will now pay higher fees than before. According to the amended Rule 81, the new fitness fee is ₹400 for motorcycles, ₹600 for light motor vehicles, and ₹1000 for medium or heavy commercial vehicles.

These new fees will only apply when vehicles are 10 years old. This means that the charge that used to be levied at 15 years will now begin five years earlier, i.e., after 10 years. This will directly impact those who drive their vehicles for longer periods and undergo fitness tests every two years.

Biggest blow to 20-year-old vehicles

If your vehicle is over 20 years old, the fitness test fee has now increased significantly. The fee for heavy commercial vehicles, such as buses and trucks, has increased from ₹2,500 to ₹25,000. For medium commercial vehicles, it has increased from ₹1,800 to ₹20,000. Light motor vehicles will now have to pay ₹15,000. The fee for three-wheelers is ₹7,000.

The fee for two-wheelers has increased from ₹600 to ₹2,000. Previously, all older vehicles were charged the same fee. However, the introduction of age-based slabs has significantly increased the burden. The government claims these changes are aimed at strengthening road safety, controlling pollution, and gradually phasing out old, inefficient vehicles.
