Students coming to India from abroad arrive in large numbers not only for their studies but also to experience the local culture, lifestyle, and various opportunities. If you are planning to come to India on a student visa, simply preparing for admission and travel is not enough. Upon arrival, it is crucial to complete certain formalities and tasks on time to ensure your studies and stay proceed without any issues. With the right information and preparation, you can not only avoid legal complications but also make your time in India truly memorable.

Registration
All foreign nationals arriving on a student visa are required to register with the concerned FRRO within 14 days of their arrival in India. This can be done by applying for the ‘Registration’ service on the e-FRRO portal. Upon successful registration, you will be issued a Registration Certificate or Residential Permit (RC/RP). This RC/RP serves as proof of your legal stay in India. Always check the expiry date printed on your RC/RP.

Extension of RC/RP
If the expiry date of your RC/RP is approaching but your student visa remains valid, you can apply for the ‘Registration Extension’ service via the e-FRRO portal before your RC/RP expires.

Extension of Student Visa
If your student visa is nearing expiration, you can apply for the ‘Visa Extension’ service through the e-FRRO portal to legally continue your academic program in India.
