If you abuse someone in anger, how much punishment will you get? What does the law say?

Many times, people suddenly get so angry at something that they are unable to control themselves. In such a situation, even a minor thing turns into a big argument, and the matter escalates to a fight. During this time, people use bad words.
Often in anger, people are unable to control their tongues and abuse the other person. Many times, this matter ends here. But in some cases, the matter escalates. If someone feels bad about your abuse, action can be taken against you.
Let us tell you that under the law in India, abusing is not only socially wrong. But it is also considered a legal crime. When it is done in a public place or deliberately to hurt someone's reputation.
In such cases, the victim can lodge a complaint. A case can be registered under Section 356 of the Indian Penal Code (BNS). Under which using obscene language in a public place is a crime. Under this, if found guilty, the punishment can be up to three months imprisonment, fine or both.
If the abuse includes casteist words or discriminatory remarks, then the matter becomes even more serious. In this situation, a case can also be registered under the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act i.e. SC/ST Act.
Under Section 351 of the BNS, if someone is deliberately provoked by abuse and peace is disturbed due to it, then also it will be considered a crime. In this, there can be a maximum punishment of two years, fine or both.
If abusive words are said with the intention of violating the dignity of a woman, then BNS Section 357 can be applied. There is a provision of maximum one year imprisonment, fine or both. So, be careful about what you are saying to whom in anger.
