Indian Railways has made a big change in the rules for preparing the reservation chart. Earlier this chart used to be prepared 4 hours before the departure of the train, but now this time has been increased to 8 hours. Meaning if your train is at 5 am, then its chart will now be ready at 9 pm. This new rule has been implemented across the country from 10 July 2025. According to the Railways, this change has been made keeping in mind the convenience of the passengers, so that people can plan their journey in time and can also know the status of waiting ticket soon.

Now the status of the ticket will be known 8 hours in advance

Under the new rule, now the chart for trains running till 2 pm will be prepared in advance at 9 pm. After this, the chart for trains from 2 pm to 12 midnight will be prepared exactly 8 hours before their departure. This change will especially benefit those passengers who plan their journey with waiting tickets or come to the station from some far-flung area. Earlier, due to the delay in making the chart, passengers had to wait till the last moment for the ticket to be confirmed, but now they will get to know the status several hours in advance.

PRS will be improved

However, the second chart will still be prepared 30 minutes before the train departs. It will include the names of only those passengers whose bookings were confirmed at the last moment or whose new reservations were made after the ticket was cancelled. Railways has also informed that the PRS system i.e. passenger reservation system is also being improved, so that booking of about 1.5 lakh tickets can be handled in a minute. This will be about five times more than the current capacity.

Overall, this step of the Railways is a relief for the passengers. Now, as the chart of any train will be prepared beforehand, confirmation, seat planning and travel preparation will be very easy. This change will prove to be very helpful especially for early morning trains.
