The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to give 20% reservation to former Agniveers in police and PAC recruitment. This will give a golden opportunity to thousands of Agniveers to get a job and UP Police will also get a disciplined force.

The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a big and historic decision for former Agniveers. Now those youth who have completed four years of service in the army under the 'Agneepath Yojana' will get 20 percent reservation in the recruitment of UP Police and PAC. This decision will not only give a new direction to the former Agniveers, but will also work to give a disciplined and trained force to the UP Police.

The state government has clarified that Agniveers will get a chance in direct recruitment to posts like constable (reserve), PAC, mounted police and fireman in UP Police. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna informed that 20% of the posts on all these posts will be reserved for former Agniveers. This reservation will be horizontal, that is, the Agniveers who belong to a particular category (SC/ST/OBC/EWS) will get the benefits of the same category.

Relief in age limit too

Agniveers will be given a relaxation of three years in the maximum age limit. That is, if the maximum age limit for a general candidate is 23 years, then for former Agniveers this limit can be 26 years.

How many recruitments and how many posts?

Total posts: 26,596
Constable: 19,220
Constable PAC: 9,837
Mounted Police: 71
Fireman: Posts included
Women Battalion (Badaun, Gorakhpur, Lucknow): 2,282
Civil Police: 3,245
Special Security Force (UPSSF): 1,341

Importance of the decision

If we consider even 20 percent of these posts for former Agniveers, then according to estimates, there will be more than 5,000 posts that can be given to them. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had announced this on Kargil Vijay Diwas last year and now the government has cleared the way to implement it. This decision will not only provide employment to former Agniveers, but the state will also get the benefit of their military discipline and skills.

What is the status of Agniveers?

The central government started the Agneepath scheme in 2022. Under this, the youth get a chance to serve in the Army, Air Force and Navy for four years. The first batch will complete four years of service in 2026. 25% of them can get permanent appointment, while 75% will need jobs in the civil sector.
