The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is investigating IndiGo, one of the country's largest airlines. The probe concerns the mass cancellation of IndiGo flights, which caused significant inconvenience to passengers. The CCI is examining whether IndiGo deliberately orchestrated these cancellations for its own gain. In response, IndiGo has proposed several measures to address the issue. These include establishing a crisis management group, setting up a dedicated grievance redressal mechanism, and temporarily surrendering slots to airport authorities when necessary.

IndiGo, which holds over a 66% share of the domestic aviation market, has made five key commitments to the CCI to alleviate competition-related concerns. These proposals have been submitted under the CCI's commitment regulations. According to the rules, if the CCI accepts these proposals following a public consultation and evaluation process, the ongoing investigation could be closed.

**What services has IndiGo proposed?**

According to the CCI's public notice, IndiGo has proposed forming a crisis management group comprising senior executives. Additionally, there are plans to set up a dedicated, round-the-clock customer experience "war room" to assist affected passengers. The Commission has invited public feedback on these proposals. To enhance passenger convenience, the airline has also proposed engaging additional service providers at various airports to ensure the availability of amenities—such as food packets, water, and road transport (taxis)—when needed. Furthermore, IndiGo has committed to arranging alternative flights and initiating an automatic refund process within a specified timeframe.

For now, the CCI investigation has been put on hold pending the completion of the public consultation and proposal evaluation process. IndiGo stated that a formal crisis management group, a mechanism to review structural disruptions, and a system to hand over slots to airport authorities during large-scale flight disruptions would enable the timely and coordinated management of such situations. This would also prevent any inadvertent reduction in market capacity.

A key initiative within the proposals is IndiGo's willingness to temporarily hand over its domestic flight arrival and departure slots to the respective airport operators or authorities in the event of large-scale operational disruptions.

It is worth noting that in February, the CCI ordered a detailed investigation into IndiGo after the airline cancelled thousands of flights in December 2025 due to operational issues. These cancellations caused significant inconvenience to a large number of passengers.

Air India has also launched a similar service.
Air India has launched a special app for the convenience of its passengers, designed to provide assistance in the event of flight delays or cancellations. The app will send alerts to passengers if their flight is affected and will display options for hotel accommodation and transportation directly within the interface. Passengers can book hotels or generate digital vouchers through the app based on their preferences. In the event of a disruption, passengers can rebook onto another flight on the same route for free within the next three days or claim a refund.
