Inspector General of Police (IG)

The IG or Inspector General of Police's uniform has a sword and a star. The badge is marked with IPS. This is a very important post in the police department.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG)

The DIG is also called the Deputy Inspector General of Police. Their uniform has IPS written on it and features the Ashoka Pillar along with three stars.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP)

SSPs are posted in large cities. Their uniform has the Ashoka Pillar and two stars.

Superintendent of Police (SP)

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP)

An Inspector is in charge of a police station. Their uniform has a red and blue stripe with three stars. Sub-Inspector (SI)

The Sub-Inspector is an important officer at the police station. Their uniform has two stars with red and blue stripes. This rank is equivalent to a Subedar in the army.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI)

The ASI is one rank above a Head Constable. Their uniform has one star with a red and blue stripe.

Head Constable

A Head Constable's uniform has a black stripe with two yellow stripes on it. In some states, the badge also has red stripes. A Senior Constable's uniform has a black stripe with yellow stripes above it in place of a badge.

Constable
