Apple's popular cloud service iCloud saw a major outage on the morning of June 25. Due to this outage, users around the world had trouble using essential services like Photos, iCloud Mail, Find My, and iCloud Web Apps, although now Apple has confirmed that all services have become completely normal.

When did the outage happen?

According to Apple's System Status Dashboard, this outage started shortly after midnight Indian time (IST) and lasted till around 4:30 am i.e. services were disrupted for about 5 hours. Due to the outage, iCloud Mail, iCloud Drive, Photos, Find My, iCloud Account & Sign-In, iWork for iCloud, iCloud Calendar, iCloud Contacts, iCloud Storage Upgrades and iCloud Web Apps services were down.

What problems did users face?

iCloud Mail: 50% of users could not access mail.

iCloud Drive: 44% of users could not download or access files.

iCloud Account Login: 6% of users could not even log in.

Complaints started pouring in from 1 am on service monitoring websites like Downdetector.

Anger on social media

Users expressed their anger on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Many users saw error messages like "There was a problem loading this content" while opening iCloud Drive. At the same time, some users were unable to login to both apps and websites until Apple updated the problem on the status page.

What was the reason?

Apple has not clearly stated the technical reason behind this outage. The company only said that the problem was limited to "some users" and now all services are working normally. Apple has updated its system status page so that all services are now working normally. Users have been requested to check their accounts and ensure that their data and files are available properly.
