Hydrogen Train to Reach Delhi; Trials Underway Beyond Jind-Sonipat
Indian Railways' first hydrogen train is currently operating between Jind and Sonipat, but trials are underway to extend its service to Delhi via Sabzi Mandi. Here are the details.
Indian Railways is promoting clean, low-pollution trains alongside modern amenities for passengers. As part of this initiative, India's first hydrogen train was launched between Jind and Sonipat in Haryana. Preparations are now being made to extend the route from Jind-Sonipat to Delhi so that a larger number of passengers can benefit from it.
When will it start running to Delhi?
Currently, the hydrogen train operates only between Jind and Sonipat, but preparations—including trials—are being made to extend the service to Delhi. In other words, the train is not yet running to Delhi; only trials are being conducted. However, the hydrogen train could potentially operate to Delhi in the future.

Plans to extend the route to Delhi
Plans are in place to extend the train's route from Jind-Sonipat to New Delhi via Sabzi Mandi. However, before launching the service to Delhi, the Railways is assessing the necessary arrangements and scheduling. To this end, trials for the hydrogen train are being conducted every Friday.
What will the fare be?
Currently, the fare for the country's first hydrogen train ranges from a minimum of ₹5 to a maximum of ₹25. If the train is extended to Delhi, the Railways will determine the fare for this route.
Which passengers will benefit?
If the hydrogen train is extended to Delhi in the future, many passengers could benefit:
Commuters traveling between Jind (and surrounding areas) and Delhi.
Individuals traveling along these routes for work or education.
Extending the service to Delhi could also lead to an increase in passenger numbers. If the trial is successful, a large number of passengers will be able to travel by hydrogen train in the future.
