Recently, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology shared a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle. In this post, they explained that scammers are luring people into traps using "limited-time offers." The post stated: "Scammers love 'limited-time offers' because they prevent you from making a well-considered decision. In the case of essential services like LPG, you should only trust offers that appear on official government portals. If an offer seems too good to be true, assume it is a trap."

How to Identify the Scam

The 'Priority' Trap
Scammers will first claim that you have been "specially selected" as a priority customer and will urge you to make a hasty, unthinking decision. Their method of dangling bait is designed to be so enticing that almost anyone could easily fall for the deception.
The 'Limited Stock' Lie
These scammers will falsely claim that only "limited stock" remains available, advising you to book your cylinder as quickly as possible. However, you must not heed their advice.
The Fake Letter
Not only that, but these scammers will also send you a fake approval letter. They will inquire about an LPG dealership and demand a refundable fee.
Government Agencies Do Not Issue Such Offers
In this very post, the government has also clarified that no government agency extends such offers to its customers. They stated in the post: "Government agencies and oil companies—such as BPCL, Hindustan Petroleum, or Indian Oil Corporation—do not issue such limited-time links or offers for bookings."
