UP Free Gas Cylinder Refill: There's great news for women in Uttar Pradesh this Diwali. The Yogi government is providing free LPG gas cylinders to 17.5 million women in the state. This facility is being provided under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (Prime Minister's Ujjwala Yojana) to ease kitchen expenses during the festival. However, not every woman will benefit. Only those women whose Aadhaar authentication has been completed are eligible for this scheme.
The government has allocated a budget of ₹1,500 crore for this scheme, and this benefit will be provided in two phases. The first phase will provide free refills from October to December, and the second from January to March. Let's explain how to avail the benefits of this scheme and what you need to do.
How to Get a Free Gas Cylinder
If you live in Uttar Pradesh and are a beneficiary of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PM-Ujjwala Yojana), you will receive a free cylinder. To do this, you must first refill a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder at the normal rate. The subsidy amount will be refunded to your Aadhaar-linked bank account within three to four days of purchasing the cylinder. The subsidy is jointly provided by both the central and state governments.
Those with a small 5 kg cylinder can also purchase a 14.2 kg cylinder. Those with only one connection will also benefit from the scheme. This includes all customers of companies like Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum.
Two Free Refills
The Yogi government has decided to provide free LPG refills to women under the Ujjwala Yojana twice a year. The first refill will be from October to December 2025 and the second from January to March 2026. The government has allocated ₹1,500 crore for this purpose.
In the first phase, only women whose Aadhaar verification has been completed will benefit. Currently, 12.3 million women have already been verified. To avoid any delays in distribution, the government has also released an advance of ₹346.34 crore to oil companies.
How to Apply for the Ujjwala Yojana
If you want to receive a free gas cylinder, your name must be included in the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. Women who are not yet eligible should first enroll in the scheme. To do this, visit your nearest gas agency or apply online at www.pmuy.gov.in. You will need your Aadhaar card, ration card, bank passbook, and mobile number. Enter your details in the "Apply for PMUY" option on the website and upload the required documents.
After verifying the information, a representative from the gas company will visit your home and perform the verification. If everything is in order, your name will be added to the scheme list. Only then will you be able to fully benefit from the free gas cylinder scheme.
