How will persons with disabilities in Delhi receive ₹6000 every month? What are the eligibility criteria?

The Delhi government has given a wonderful gift to people with disabilities at the beginning of 2026.  The Delhi government will provide Rs. 6,000 per month to those suffering from severe disabilities. Currently, the disability pension in Delhi is Rs. 3,000 per month. However, those with severe disabilities will receive additional financial assistance. To make this process more transparent, the government has made preparations, and a portal will be launched soon.

According to information, the Delhi government's Social Welfare Department will launch the application portal this month, in January. Under this scheme, people with benchmark disabilities (PwBD) will receive financial assistance of Rs. 6,000. However, this assistance will only be given to those who require significant care.

Assistance will not be based solely on the disability certificate.
A key feature of this scheme is that financial assistance will not be provided solely based on a disability certificate. A complete medical examination of the person with a disability will be conducted. There will be a scoring system. Based on this, it will be determined how much assistance each person needs. A team of doctors will be constituted for this purpose.

Objective of the scheme
The notification for this scheme was issued on October 1st. The objective of the scheme is to help those with disabilities who have to spend money regularly on caregivers, treatment, or therapy. They can use this money for counseling, treatment, physiotherapy, or any other therapy. Moreover, this money can also be used for other essential services. The aim is to implement a uniform and transparent method for identifying those in need. A medical board will conduct the assessment. The daily activities of the person with a disability will also be part of the assessment.

The money will be deposited directly into the disabled person's account
Initially, it was said that the money under this scheme would be given to those assisting the disabled person. However, it has now been clarified that the money will be deposited directly into the disabled person's account. It is now clear that this money will be used to cover the treatment or other expenses of the person with a disability. This scheme will benefit only those with 60% to 100% disability. 

What will be the terms and conditions of the scheme?
The first condition of this scheme is that the applicant must be a resident of Delhi for at least 5 years. They must fall under the category of severe disability, meaning they require extra care. The family's annual income should be less than ₹1 lakh. They must also possess a Delhi Aadhaar card.
