How to Surrender Your LPG Cylinder After Obtaining a PNG Connection? See the Full Process Here
Under the new regulations, households that already possess a PNG connection will not be issued a separate LPG connection. Furthermore, consumers who currently hold both connections are now required to surrender their LPG connection.
Amidst the recent situation regarding gas supply in the country, the Central Government has taken a major decision. Specifically, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has clarified—while implementing necessary amendments to the rules governing domestic cooking gas supply—that households equipped with a Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection will no longer be permitted to retain an LPG cylinder. With the implementation of this decision, surrendering their LPG connection has become mandatory for such consumers.
The government states that this measure has been taken to prevent disruptions in gas supply and to ensure that LPG cylinders reach households where PNG facilities are not yet available. Consequently, if a consumer holds both connections, they must immediately surrender their LPG connection; otherwise, they will be denied the facility to obtain cylinder refills. In light of this, let us now explain how to surrender your LPG cylinder after obtaining a PNG connection, and outline the complete procedure involved.
What Do the New Rules Stipulate?
According to the new regulations, households that already possess a PNG connection will not be granted a separate LPG connection. Conversely, consumers who currently hold both connections are now required to surrender their LPG connection. Following the implementation of this directive, oil companies and their distributors have been issued specific instructions not to provide new connections or refills to such consumers. It is worth noting that this decision by the government has been taken against the backdrop of a global energy crisis; ongoing tensions in the Middle East and their consequent impact on gas supply have disrupted energy supplies in numerous countries. Thus, this step has been initiated by the government to maintain a balanced availability of gas within the country and to ensure that cylinders reach those consumers who are truly in need.
The Offline Method for Surrendering an LPG Cylinder
If your household is equipped with a PNG connection and you wish to surrender your LPG cylinder connection, you must visit your nearest gas distributor to initiate the process. There, you will need to fill out a surrender form and submit your gas passbook or consumer number. Subsequently, the gas cylinder and regulator must be returned to the agency. Once the entire process is complete, the security deposit originally paid to the company is refunded to the consumer.
LPG Connections Can Also Be Surrendered Online
Consumers also have the option to surrender their LPG connections through online channels. To do so, they must log in to the official website or mobile app of the respective gas company. From there, a request can be submitted by navigating to the 'Surrender Connection' or 'Manage Connection' section. Following an online application, the distributor typically arranges for a pickup directly from the consumer's home to collect the cylinder and regulator.
