This year, Meta introduced a setting on the platform called "Activity from other businesses."

Instagram has become one of the most popular social media platforms today. People of all ages—from children to the elderly—consume content here based on their interests. While some earn money by creating Reels, others simply scroll through them to pass the time. However, with advancing technology, keeping user data secure has become a challenge. It is worth noting that Meta uses user data to train its AI models.

Furthermore, this data is also used for personalized advertisements. Meta does this with user consent. Therefore, we are sharing a method that allows you to prevent the platform from using your data in this way.

How to enable this setting

You can easily enable this setting on your account. First, open your Instagram profile and go to the menu (represented by three lines). Then, navigate to the "Accounts Center" and search for the "Activity from other businesses" option.

On some accounts, you may find this option by going to "Ad preferences," then "Ad settings," and finally selecting "Activity information from ad partners." You should select the option that stops personalization based on this information. Please note that doing this does not stop the profiling based on your activity within Instagram itself.

Stop this data usage immediately

As mentioned, Meta introduced the "Activity from other businesses" setting this year. This new feature allows you to decide whether or not Meta should use data sent by other companies to improve advertisements, your Feed, and AI-related recommendations.

Check permissions on iPhone

On an iPhone, you need to disable the relevant permissions. To do this, go to "Settings" and then "Privacy & Security." From there, go to "Tracking" and turn off tracking permissions for Instagram. This will stop the tracking of your activity on other companies' apps and websites for advertising purposes. However, doing so does not stop Instagram from recording your activity within its own app.

On the other hand, if you use an Android phone, go to Settings, select the 'Apps' option, navigate to Instagram, and adjust the 'Permissions' settings to disable them. You can also revoke permissions for any features the app does not actually need.

Keep this in mind when interacting with Meta AI

For your information, Meta offers a feature that allows users to interact with AI; however, there are certain precautions you should take during these interactions. In fact, your data or conversations with Meta AI may still be used for advertising purposes. Therefore, share only the necessary information when interacting with the AI. Additionally, you should avoid uploading personal information or documents to the AI.
