How to get an NHAI local toll pass? Free travel for the entire month for ₹350—here’s how to apply..
There is welcome news for the thousands of people living near toll plazas across the country. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has digitized its FASTag-based local pass system. Eligible vehicle owners can now obtain a monthly local pass for just ₹350, allowing for unlimited travel through nearby toll plazas for the entire month. Best of all, there is no longer a need to visit the toll plaza in person or submit physical documents.
**Who is eligible for the ₹350 pass?**
This facility is available to individuals whose homes are located within a 20-kilometer radius of an eligible toll plaza. Such residents can obtain a local pass for their private vehicles, thereby avoiding the need to pay toll charges repeatedly during their daily commute. The local pass is considered particularly beneficial for working professionals, businesspeople, students, and regular commuters.
**The entire local pass process is online**
NHAI has integrated the local pass application process with the 'Rajmargyatra' mobile app. Applications can be submitted via the app. The system will digitally verify vehicle and address details using government platforms like DigiLocker and VAHAN. Subsequently, GIS technology will be used to verify whether the applicant's address actually falls within the 20-kilometer limit of the toll plaza.
**What details will be verified?**
Before issuing the local pass, the digital system verifies the following information:
Applicant's address verification
Vehicle registration details
FASTag linked to the vehicle
Location of the address relative to the toll plaza
The government states that this process will largely eliminate the need for manual checks and physical document verification.
**Facility available at 121 toll plazas**
NHAI has extended this digital local pass facility to 121 toll plazas across the country. A list of eligible toll plazas can be viewed on the Rajmargyatra portal and mobile app. The authority states that the facility will be expanded to more toll plazas in the coming months.
