While there is ongoing discussion regarding e-KYC for LPG gas cylinders, it has also been announced that, starting October 1, consumers without e-KYC will have to purchase cylinders at market price. Meanwhile, residents of Jammu and Kashmir are set to receive six free LPG cylinders. The Jammu and Kashmir government made this announcement in the Legislative Assembly, approving the scheme to provide these six free cylinders.

Satish Sharma, the Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, informed the Assembly that the government has approved a plan to provide six free LPG cylinders annually to families covered under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY). However, the opposition raised questions, alleging that while a promise was made during the elections to provide 12 free cylinders to every household, the benefit has now been restricted to just six cylinders for AAY families.

**Leh Has the Most Expensive Gas Cylinder**
The most expensive LPG cylinder in the country is found in Leh; a domestic cylinder there costs ₹237 more than in Delhi, while a commercial cylinder costs ₹638 more. In Leh, the price of a non-subsidized commercial LPG cylinder is ₹3,385.50, and a domestic cylinder costs ₹1,179.

**Who Will Get the 6 Free Cylinders?**
Free LPG cylinders will not be provided to all gas consumers in Jammu and Kashmir; this benefit is reserved exclusively for families eligible under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY). The government stated that the scheme proposes transferring the cost of six LPG refills directly into the beneficiaries' bank accounts via Aadhaar-linked Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). There are approximately 8.79 lakh eligible AAY beneficiaries in Jammu and Kashmir.
