The impact of the railway fare hike will be most visible on passengers from Bihar who work outside the state. A large number of people from the state travel to other states for employment and undertake long-distance journeys. The distance from cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, and Hyderabad to Patna, Darbhanga, and Katihar is quite significant. Therefore, the fare increase will directly affect their pockets. Considering the Sleeper class, the journey from Patna to Delhi is approximately 1000 kilometers.
For this journey, passengers will now have to pay approximately 20 rupees extra. The distance from Patna to Mumbai is about 1700 kilometers, where the fare will increase by about 34 rupees. Similarly, for a journey of approximately 2150 kilometers from Patna to Bangalore, a Sleeper ticket will be about 43 rupees more expensive. Similar increases of 30 to 45 rupees will be seen on routes from Darbhanga or Katihar to cities like Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, and Hyderabad. The fare in AC class has been increased by 2 paise per kilometer, which is the same as the increase in sleeper class. Based on a distance of 1000 kilometers, the 3AC fare will increase by approximately ₹20.
The distance from Patna to Mumbai is approximately 1700 kilometers. Passengers on this route will have to pay about ₹34 extra. Similarly, on the approximately 2150-kilometer journey from Patna to Bangalore, a 3AC ticket will become about ₹43 more expensive. Likewise, on routes from Darbhanga and Katihar to cities like Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, and Hyderabad, 3AC fares will see an increase of approximately ₹30 to ₹45.
