How Much Salary Does the UP DGP Earn? How Much Will It Increase Under the 8th Pay Commission?
Do you know how much salary a DGP in UP receives? If not, we will tell you; furthermore, we will also explore how much remuneration they will receive following the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission.
Whenever the police department is discussed, the most prominent question that arises in people’s minds is: exactly how much salary does the officer responsible for managing the entire state’s police machinery actually earn? In a state as large as Uttar Pradesh—the country’s most populous state—where the responsibility for the safety and security of millions of people rests with the police, the position of the state’s police chief—the Director General of Police (DGP)—is considered extremely significant. Currently, the post of UP DGP is held by IPS officer Rajiv Krishna.
Additionally, discussions regarding the 8th Pay Commission have gained significant momentum recently. From government employees to high-ranking officials, everyone is keenly watching to see how much of an increase their salaries will see once the new Pay Commission comes into effect. In this context, let us examine the current salary of the Uttar Pradesh DGP, the various perks and allowances they receive, and the potential changes their earnings could undergo following the 8th Pay Commission.
The Highest Rank in the State Police Force
In a large state like Uttar Pradesh, the responsibility for maintaining law and order, controlling crime, managing the police force, and providing security-related counsel to the government rests squarely on the shoulders of the DGP. Within the Indian Police Service (IPS), this is considered one of the highest-ranking positions. Consequently, the remuneration for this post is determined in accordance with the highest pay scales applicable to government officers.
What is the Current Salary?
Currently, the Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh draws a salary under the provisions of the 7th Pay Commission. The post of DGP falls under the ‘Apex Scale,’ which ranks among the highest pay scales within the government service structure. The basic pay for the DGP stands at approximately ₹2.25 lakh per month. In addition to this, they receive a Dearness Allowance (DA), a Travel Allowance, and various other government-provided perks and facilities.
When the Dearness Allowance is factored in, it adds an additional amount of over ₹1 lakh to the total remuneration. Furthermore, if an officer is not provided with government-allocated housing, they are entitled to receive a House Rent Allowance (HRA). When combining all these allowances and perks, the DGP’s total monthly income amounts to approximately ₹3.5 lakh to ₹4 lakh.
Substantial Perks as Well
The benefits accorded to a DGP are not limited solely to their salary. As the head of the state police force, they are also provided with a host of government facilities. These include a government bungalow, an official vehicle, a driver, security personnel, support staff, and various other administrative amenities. The monetary value of these additional perks is considered to be quite substantial in its own right.
How Much Could Earnings Increase Under the 8th Pay Commission?
The Central Government has initiated the process of constituting the 8th Pay Commission. Although it has not yet been implemented, the salaries of government employees and officials could potentially see an increase of 25% to 30%. Should this materialize, the DGP’s basic salary could rise to a range of approximately ₹2.80 lakh to ₹3 lakh per month.
Furthermore, allowances are also likely to undergo changes in accordance with the new pay structure. Once the Dearness Allowance and other benefits are factored in, it is projected that the DGP’s total monthly salary could reach between ₹5 lakh and ₹5.5 lakh.
