So, let's find out today how to determine if a website or app is fake and what method can protect you from fraud.
How to find out if a website or app is fake
In today's time, data has become more valuable than money. If someone obtains your personal data, they can misuse it or even blackmail you. Therefore, it is crucial to know whether a website or app is genuine or fake. The good news is that you can check the authenticity of any website or app yourself by following some simple steps. The Government of India has provided a very useful facility for this on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCCRP), where you can find out in minutes whether an app or website is genuine or fake.
The easiest government method to check for fake websites or apps
1. Search for NCCRP in the Google search bar on your mobile or laptop.
2. In the search results, you will see the official website of the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal; open it.
3. After the website opens, tap on the three lines given at the top or side, which will open the complete menu.
4. In the menu, you will see an option called Report and Check Suspect; click on it. 5. Here you will find an option called "Check Suspect (Website/App)." Open it.
6. Now you will see two options: Website URL and App URL. Select the one you want to check.
7. In the provided box, enter the complete link of the website or the name/URL of the app you want to check.
8. After entering all the information, fill in the captcha and click the Search button.
9. As soon as you search, the system will tell you whether the website or app is fake or safe.
