Today is a historic day at the grand Ram Lalla Temple in Ayodhya. On the occasion of Vivah Panchami, the saffron flag will be ceremonially hoisted atop the temple's peak. This special date is considered to be the date when Lord Ram and Mother Sita were married in the Treta Yuga. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the saffron flag atop the Ram Lalla Temple.
Now that the temple construction is complete and the puja arrangements are running smoothly, people are wondering how priests become priests at the Ram Temple and how much salary they receive. Priests at the Ram Temple are appointed by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The most important requirement for becoming a priest is a candidate's adequate knowledge of Sanskrit, Vedas, scriptures, and the rituals of worship.
Most priests have received an Acharya or Shastri level of education. Additionally, experience performing puja in a large temple, a calm and disciplined lifestyle, and religious conduct are also valued. Candidates are interviewed and given a practical test on the puja rituals. Final selection is made only after this.
How much is the salary?
According to reports, a major change has recently been made to the salaries of priests and temple staff at the Ram Temple. The Trust has increased their salaries to further strengthen the priests financially. The head priest's salary has been increased to approximately ₹35,000 per month, while the assistant priests' salaries have been fixed at ₹33,000 per month. The temple's treasurer and storekeeper receive a salary of ₹24,000 per month. Furthermore, a new treasurer has recently been appointed at a monthly salary of ₹19,000.
The Trust has also decided to deduct funds from the salaries of the employees involved in the temple's puja arrangements to ensure smooth functioning of the temple's administrative system. The process of annual salary increment has also been started, due to which there will be regular increase in the salaries of priests and staff in the future.
