The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has provided significant relief to Delhi residents by announcing a house tax waiver. Additionally, apartment dwellers will receive a discount of up to 25% on their house tax payments.

Major Relief for Delhi Residents – MCD Waives House Tax

Until now, Delhi residents enjoyed benefits like free electricity and water. Now, the MCD is extending further relief by waiving house tax for certain categories of homeowners. Previously, under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, Delhiites received up to 200 units of free electricity and 20,000 liters of free water since 2013, contributing to AAP’s decade-long rule in the city.

However, in the recent assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured victory in Delhi, leading to the appointment of Rekha Gupta as the city's Chief Minister. Meanwhile, the MCD remains under AAP’s control, and the house tax waiver is set to provide much-needed financial relief to residents.

Who is Eligible for the House Tax Waiver?

On Monday, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh announced that the MCD would begin waiving house tax payments. He stated that residents who clear their outstanding house tax for the financial year 2024-25 will have all their previous dues completely waived. The announcement was made in the presence of MCD Mayor Mahesh Khinchi, Deputy Mayor Ravinder Bhardwaj, and Leader of the House Mukesh Goyal.

50% and 25% House Tax Relief Based on Property Size

  • Homeowners with properties ranging from 100 to 500 square yards will receive a 50% waiver on house tax.
  • Residents of apartment complexes up to 1,300 square yards will benefit from a 25% reduction in house tax.
  • Previously, apartment residents did not receive any tax relief, making this decision particularly beneficial for them.

Mayor Mahesh Khinchi emphasized that this initiative aligns with AAP’s commitment to public welfare. He stated, “We are fulfilling the promises made by AAP. We have already regularized 12,000 MCD employees, and this tax waiver decision will be formally approved in the upcoming MCD House meeting on the 25th.”
