Here farmers will get a bonus of ₹109 per quintal along with MSP on selling paddy..
Following the harvest of paddy—the primary Kharif crop—it has been announced that farmers will receive a bonus in addition to the Minimum Support Price (MSP), a move intended to strengthen their financial position. This announcement applies to farmers in Jharkhand. On Monday, the state’s Minister for Food and Public Distribution, Irfan Ansari, stated that for the 2026-27 financial year, farmers in Jharkhand will receive a bonus on paddy, over and above the Minimum Support Price (MSP) set by the central government.
**Bonus of ₹109 per quintal**
Providing further details, Jharkhand’s Minister for Food and Public Distribution, Irfan Ansari, explained that an additional bonus of ₹109 per quintal will be provided on top of the fixed MSP for paddy. For the 2025-26 financial year, the Jharkhand government had approved a bonus of ₹81 per quintal. Speaking to the media, Ansari stated that the government has decided to increase this bonus to ₹109 per quintal, which, as in the previous year, will be paid to the farmers as a lump sum. It is worth noting that the procurement target for paddy this year has been set at 4 million quintals (40 lakh quintals).
**What is the MSP for paddy? ****
The Minister informed that the central government has set the MSP for 'common' grade paddy at ₹2,441 per quintal and for 'Grade-A' paddy at ₹2,461 per quintal for the 2026-27 period. In addition to this, the state government will provide a bonus of ₹109 per quintal to farmers. Ansari noted that, based on the procurement target of 4 million quintals, an expenditure of ₹43.60 crore has been estimated for the bonus payments.
A proposal seeking approval for this allocation has been submitted to the Scheme Authorization Committee (SAC). The Minister stated that, according to departmental assessments, 1.96 million quintals (19.60 lakh quintals) of paddy are required for the central pool under the central government’s National Food Security Act (NFSA), while 1.979 million quintals (19.79 lakh quintals) are needed for the Jharkhand State Food Security Scheme (JSFSS). In view of this, a proposal has been made to increase the procurement target to 4 million quintals (40 lakh quintals).
Strict measures will be in place regarding the inflow of paddy from other states.
Irfan Ansari further stated that the government will take steps to prevent the inflow of paddy into Jharkhand from Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Last year, under a lump-sum payment system, a large number of farmers from these states came to Jharkhand to sell their produce. Ansari emphasized that ensuring fair prices for farmers' produce, increasing their income, and making agriculture more profitable are among the government's top priorities.
