Have you also received an SMS from the number 127000? Find out who is sending these messages and what you need to do.
These days, many people are receiving SMS messages from the number 127000. This SMS contains an alert message along with a link. These messages are being sent as part of a joint test project by TRAI and RBI.
Have you also received an SMS from the number 127000 on your mobile? If yes, there is no need to worry, and if not, you might receive one in the next few days. These SMS messages are being sent under a test project being conducted by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in collaboration with the RBI. This test project is being conducted for Digital Consent Acquisition (DCA). Let's learn more about it.
Why are these SMS messages being sent?
This project has been launched to bring all the permissions given by mobile users for promotional messages into a digital system. Currently, businesses that send promotional messages are required to maintain a digital consent registry of users. On the other hand, users have the option to block promotional calls and messages, but in many cases, banks and other businesses obtain permission from users to send promotional messages through paper forms. Later, when the user wants to block these messages, it becomes very difficult to cancel the permission given on the paper form, and they continue to receive messages. This test project has been started to address this problem.
What will change now?
To help users overcome this problem, the RBI and TRAI are running a test project. In this project, banks will have to upload their customers' paper-based permissions to an online portal. On this portal, customers will be able to choose whether they want to receive promotional messages or want to stop them. For this, the message sent to the mobile number contains an alert message along with a link. This link will take the user to the consent management page. On this page, the user will be able to see all their permissions, which they can continue or revoke. It is important to note that this entire process is optional.
