Have petrol and diesel prices dropped? Check rates from Delhi to Patna
In Delhi, the price of petrol remains steady at ₹102.12, while the diesel rate is ₹95.20 per liter. In Kolkata, petrol is priced at ₹104.95 per liter and diesel at ₹99.82 per liter.
There has been no change in petrol and diesel prices across major cities in the country today, Saturday, September 19. State-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) revise petrol and diesel prices daily, with new rates updated at 6 AM.
While the government has recently reduced the windfall tax on petrol and diesel exports, this has had no direct impact on domestic retail prices, and rates for ordinary consumers remain unchanged.
What was the extent of the reduction?
The export duty on petrol has been slashed from ₹1.50 per liter to ₹0.50 (50 paise) per liter—a reduction of ₹1 per liter.
The export duty on diesel has been reduced from ₹25 per liter to ₹20 per liter—a reduction of ₹5 per liter. The government has also eliminated the ₹1 Road and Infrastructure Cess (RIC) applicable to it.
The tax on ATF (Aviation Turbine Fuel) exports has been reduced from ₹19 per liter to ₹15 per liter, providing relief of ₹4 per liter.

Meanwhile, petrol pump dealers are demanding an exemption from the new charges on Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions, which are set to come into effect next month. Dealers have warned that their margins are already very thin, making it difficult to absorb this additional cost. Consequently, they may completely refuse to accept UPI payments exceeding ₹2,000. Petrol and diesel prices are already regulated by the government and oil marketing companies (OMCs), which also determine dealer commissions; consequently, dealers cannot pass the burden of transaction fees on to customers and must absorb the loss themselves.
If a ban on using UPI for large digital payments at petrol pumps is indeed implemented, customers might once again have to resort to carrying large amounts of cash or using credit/debit cards, potentially dealing a blow to the 'Digital India' initiative.
