Has your ATM card been damaged? Do this immediately, and a new card will arrive within 7 days..
Process for Replacing a Damaged ATM Card: In today's digital era, the ATM card has become an integral part of everyone's life. Consequently, losing or damaging an ATM card can cause significant inconvenience. However, there is no need to worry unduly if your card gets damaged or lost, as you can now easily obtain a new one from the comfort of your home.
You can easily order a new ATM card via net banking, mobile apps, customer care, or by visiting your home branch. If you use net banking or your bank's mobile banking app—such as YONO SBI, iMobile, HDFC Mobile Banking, etc.—you can apply for a new card using the methods described below.
Log in to your bank's official mobile app or internet banking portal. Navigate to the 'Cards', 'ATM', 'Debit Card Services', or 'Service Request' option in the menu. Select the 'Block and Replace Card' or 'Request New Card' option. If your old, damaged card is still active, select the reason for blocking it and submit a request to issue a new card.
Delivery within 7 to 10 days
After applying online, your new ATM card is sent via Speed Post to the address registered with the bank within 7 to 10 working days.
Offline application method
Visit your bank branch with your passbook and proof of identity. Go to your home branch and obtain an ATM replacement form from the counter. Accurately fill in details such as your account number, name, mobile number, and address. Attach a photocopy of your bank passbook and a copy of an identity document—such as a PAN card or other government ID—to the form. Some bank branches issue an 'Insta Debit Card' (without a printed name) on the spot upon form submission, while others courier the card to your home address.
Order a new card by calling the customer care number
If you do not have internet access and cannot visit a bank branch, you can apply via the helpline. Call the toll-free customer care number listed in your passbook or on the bank's official website. Inform the customer service representative that your ATM card is damaged or defective. Once the identity and security verification process is complete, the old card will be blocked, and a request for the delivery of a new card will be registered.
Things to keep in mind when getting a new ATM card
Banks may charge a fee ranging from ₹150 to ₹300 (plus GST) to issue a replacement card for a damaged one. This charge is deducted directly from your bank account.
For security reasons, do not simply throw away your damaged card. Use scissors to cut the card's chip and the black magnetic strip into small pieces to prevent any potential financial risk.
