Ladki Bahin Yojana: The installments of Maharashtra's Ladki Bahin Yojana have been affected by the elections. Due to the implementation of the code of conduct for the BMC elections, the advance installment for women has been stopped. The Chief Minister has clarified that the money will now be transferred only after January 16th.

Ladki Bahin Yojana: The Chief Minister's Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana remains a great ray of hope for millions of women in Maharashtra. Through this scheme, the government provides eligible women with a monthly assistance of Rs. 1500 for their personal expenses and children's education. However, due to the current political developments and elections, some major changes have occurred regarding the next installment of this scheme.

Why was the advance payment stopped?

The state government had planned to give women both the December and January installments together in advance during January. The government's aim was to provide financial stability to women during the festive season. However, in the meantime, the dates for the elections of 29 municipal corporations in the state, including the BMC (Mumbai Municipal Corporation), were announced. As soon as the election code of conduct was implemented, the State Election Commission immediately stopped any kind of advance payment.

What did Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis say?

Speaking to the media in Pune, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the government respects democratic values and the instructions of the Election Commission. The CM confirmed that due to the rules of the code of conduct, women will not receive the advance installment for January. He clarified that no additional payments are possible until the election process is complete.

On what date will the money be credited to the accounts?

The most important news for the beneficiaries of the scheme is that the money will not be stopped, but will arrive with a slight delay. According to the instructions of the Election Commission:

  • The counting of votes for the municipal corporation elections is to be held on January 16th.
  • The next installment will be released only after the results are declared and the election process is completed.
  • It is expected that the amount of Rs. 1500 will be transferred to the women's bank accounts on any day after January 16th. Election Commission's Strict Directives

The Commission has clarified that existing and regular benefits under the scheme can continue, but providing advance payments just before the elections will be considered a violation of the Model Code of Conduct. The Commission had also received several complaints in this regard. Furthermore, adding new beneficiaries to the scheme or making any new announcements until the elections are over has been completely prohibited.
