Summer Special Trains: In view of the surging crowds during the summer season, Indian Railways has taken a major decision and announced the operation of 18,262 'Summer Special' train trips between April 15 and July 15, 2026.

Summer Special Trains: With April drawing to a close, school holidays for children typically begin in May. During this period, a large number of people plan to travel for leisure or to visit their hometowns; consequently, trains become heavily overcrowded, making travel a difficult and arduous experience. However, Indian Railways has now taken a significant step to benefit passengers by addressing the anticipated rush during the summer vacation period. According to Indian Railways, a total of 18,262 'Summer Special' train trips have been announced for the period spanning from April 15 to July 15, 2026. This initiative is expected to make it easier for passengers to secure confirmed tickets while simultaneously reducing overcrowding on trains.

According to the Railways, these special trains are being operated specifically with the peak travel season in mind. As of now, 11,878 trips have already been announced, and details regarding the remaining trains are set to be released shortly. The Ministry of Railways has stated that this year's plan has been formulated with comprehensive preparations, including measures such as increasing the number of coaches and optimizing train timetables.

These special trains will facilitate easier travel between major and minor cities across the country, including:

New Delhi
Mumbai
Surat
Ahmedabad
Bengaluru

Special Arrangements at Stations

In addition, the Railways has implemented several improvements at stations to enhance passenger convenience. Western Railway has introduced a real-time crowd management system at Udhna Railway Station to effectively regulate crowd density on the platforms.

Furthermore, additional measures include:

Personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) are assisting passengers in boarding trains safely.
Crowd movement and density on platforms are being actively managed and controlled. The boarding and seating process has been streamlined.
Passengers are being provided with improved guidance and assistance.
