The deadline for filing monthly and quarterly returns for GST is Saturday, January 11, 2025. But, just a day before this, the GST portal crashed. This portal has not been working for more than 24 hours. This has worried taxpayers across the country. Many traders are not able to file returns despite all the preparations. Traders have also demanded an extension of the deadline given the current technical problem.
What did GSTN say on the technical glitch?
The official social media handle of GSTN has responded to this problem. It said, 'Some users are having trouble preparing and filing their GSTR-1 summary. He also said that his technical team is working fast to resolve this problem.' In another update, it was said that the GST portal would be fixed by noon on Friday. However, the site was not opening even till 4.15 pm. Now the time for fixing the site has been extended to 6 pm.
On logging in to the site, a message is coming, 'Scheduled downtime! We are improving the services on the site. Services will not be available from 12:00 am on January 10, 2025, to 6:00 pm on January 10, 2025. For any queries, please call us at 1800-103-4786. We appreciate your cooperation.'
The GST portal has been down for a long time.
According to the taxpayers, they have been trying to file GST for the last several hours, but the file is not getting updated. Due to this, many traders are facing problems. Especially, those traders who were planning to file their returns on the last day. Since the portal is down, taxpayers are demanding an extension of the deadline.
Taxpayers say that this technical problem has occurred from the GST portal, so they should get additional time to file the return. Taxpayers are demanding to extend the deadline by at least 2 days. There is no official response from the tax department on this yet. It is not yet decided when the GST site will start working. It is believed that the tax department will take an official decision regarding the deadline only after the site is fixed.
