If you use an LPG gas cylinder at home and the PNG (Piped Natural Gas) service is about to launch in your area, this news is highly relevant to you. The central government has amended the rules regarding LPG. Now, if a person obtains a PNG connection and later moves to a location where PNG service is unavailable, they will not need to get a new LPG connection; instead, they can simply reactivate their old LPG connection. This will bring significant relief to millions of consumers.

**New Rule Regarding LPG Gas**
The Government of India issued the LPG (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Amendment Order, 2026, on May 25, 2026. The objective of this new rule is to make it easier for people to adopt PNG. The government encourages the use of PNG in areas where the facility is available, while ensuring that residents do not face gas-related difficulties if they have to move to a non-PNG area in the future.

**LPG Consumers Now Have Two Options**
Once a PNG connection is installed in a consumer's home, they will have two options:

First, they can apply to surrender their LPG connection within 30 days of receiving the PNG connection.
Second, if they anticipate moving to a non-PNG area in the future, they can opt to suspend their LPG connection and obtain a transfer voucher. This voucher will allow them to reactivate their LPG connection later in a non-PNG region.

**Who Will Benefit the Most?**
This new rule is particularly beneficial for individuals whose jobs involve frequent transfers. Additionally, tenants, students studying in other cities, migrant families, and those who relocate periodically will also gain significantly. They will no longer have to worry about obtaining a new gas connection every time they move.

**Relief for Commercial LPG Consumers Too**
The government has extended relief to commercial and industrial LPG users alongside domestic consumers. Certain restrictions had previously been imposed on the supply of commercial packed LPG during the crisis in West Asia. The government has now lifted all those restrictions and restored the supply of commercial packed LPG to normal levels.

Meanwhile, the supply of bulk LPG has also resumed at 50 percent of previous consumption levels. This will bring relief to hotels, restaurants, factories, and other commercial establishments.

The government states that the supply of domestic LPG across the country will continue as before, ensuring that no consumer faces a gas shortage. Additionally, in areas where the PNG network is available, residents will gradually be connected to PNG. The government, in coordination with oil companies, will also continuously monitor LPG supplies to ensure that no one faces difficulties when the need arises.
