Sri Lanka Free ETA: If you are planning a trip to Sri Lanka, there is great news for you. Sri Lanka is now offering a free Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) valid for 30 days to tourists from 40 countries, including India. This facility came into effect on May 25, 2026. Consequently, if a tourist is eligible for the ETA, they will not need to obtain a separate visa to visit Sri Lanka. However, it remains mandatory to apply for the ETA online before traveling. Let's explore this new facility in greater detail...

Validity and Entry Regulations
Under this new arrangement, travelers will now receive a free tourist visa valid for 30 days. With this visa, travelers are permitted to enter Sri Lanka twice. Regarding validity, the period commences from the date of the first entry. Furthermore, should a traveler wish to extend their stay in Sri Lanka beyond 30 days, they may apply for a visa extension by paying the prescribed fee. However, the regulations differ slightly for citizens of the Maldives; under the ETA scheme, travelers from the Maldives will be granted a 90-day tourist visa.

Where to Apply for the ETA
With the launch of the free ETA scheme, travelers from India can complete the entire online application process prior to their journey, thereby facilitating smoother entry into Sri Lanka and significantly expediting the overall procedure. You can easily apply for the ETA online by visiting the official ETA website at https://eta.gov.lk.
