Great news! Microsoft has extended the deadline for security updates; support will now be available until 2027..
Microsoft has offered significant relief to millions of Windows 10 users. The company has quietly extended the duration of its Windows 10 Consumer Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. Originally scheduled to end in October 2026, the program will now continue until October 12, 2027.
This extension provides more time for users whose older computers do not currently meet the hardware requirements for Windows 11.
Microsoft has announced on its support website that users enrolled in the ESU program will continue to receive security updates until October 12, 2027. Users already registered in the program do not need to take any further action; their ESU coverage will automatically extend to the new date.
**Important details before joining the program**
The company states that users who have not yet joined the ESU program can enroll at any time before the final deadline. However, Microsoft warns that until enrollment, systems remain at higher risk from viruses, malware, and other cyber threats.
This decision is particularly beneficial for users whose PCs do not meet Windows 11 hardware standards. They now have approximately an extra year to either purchase a new computer or upgrade to Windows 11, all while their systems continue to receive essential security updates.
To join the ESU program, users must sign in with their Microsoft account. This feature is available for the Home, Professional, Pro Education, and Workstation editions of Windows 10 version 22H2.
Additionally, the device must have the latest Windows 10 update installed. According to Microsoft, a single ESU license can cover up to 10 devices.
