Fake Calls: In view of the increasing cases of fake calls and messages, TRAI implemented a new policy last year under which such calls and SMS are blocked at the network level itself. Many telecom companies are now using AI technology to stop such fraud calls and messages. Airtel's recent data has shown that lakhs of fake calls are being blocked every month.

However, despite the vigilance of the government, cyber criminals are trying to cheat people with new tricks. Now these thugs have started using VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) calls through the Internet, which makes it difficult to trace their location and identity.

Big danger associated with VoIP calls

According to Thailand's telecommunications organization, NBTC, VoIP calls often start with +697 or +698. It is very difficult to track these calls and this is why cyber criminals use them primarily. Not only this, these thugs also use VPN (Virtual Private Network) so that their real identity remains completely hidden. If you get a call from an international number, especially one that starts with +697 or +698, it is better to ignore it. These calls are mostly made for online fraud or promotional scams. You can also block such numbers directly.

Even if you have received the call by mistake, never share your personal information. These people try to confuse you by introducing themselves as a government official, bank employee or any other prominent person. In such a situation, tell them that you will call back yourself. If they refuse to give a valid number, then understand that this call is a scam.

Report on 'Chakshu' portal

The government has launched the 'Chakshu' portal to complain about fake calls and messages, which is available on the Sanchar Sathi website. Apart from this, a mobile app is also available through which you can easily report such fraudulent calls and messages. To report, go to the 'Chakshu' portal, provide information about the concerned call or message and follow the instructions given on the screen.
