The central government has taken major action against apps that broadcast objectionable content. The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has banned 25 apps, including Ullu. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has taken this step by identifying apps showing pornographic content and objectionable ads.

According to the notification issued by the government, all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have been instructed to block these 25 apps from their servers and stop their access immediately. Storyboard18 has reported in its report that this step has been taken to prevent the spread of obscene and objectionable content.

Why was the ban imposed?
According to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, all the banned apps and websites show objectionable ads, including pornographic content. In such a situation, they violate many rules, including Section 67 and Section 67A of the IT Act, 2000, Section 294 of the Indian Justice Code, 2023, and Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986. This is the reason why they have been banned.
