Government Schemes: Many social security schemes are being run by the government for the poor and workers working in the unorganized sector of the country. One of these is Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana (PM Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana). This scheme was launched in February 2019 and its purpose is to provide financial support to the workers in old age.

What is Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana?

It is a voluntary and contributory pension scheme, which is run by the Ministry of Labor and Employment. Under this, workers working in the unorganized sector are given a pension of ₹3000 every month after the age of 60 years.

Who gets the benefit of this scheme?

The benefit of this scheme is available only to those workers working in the unorganized sector:

Whose monthly income is ₹15,000 or less.

Whose age is between 18 to 40 years.

Who are not beneficiaries of EPFO/NPS/ESIC and are not income tax payers.

So far more than 46 lakh people have joined this scheme, due to which this scheme has become a big social security system.

How much monthly installment has to be paid?

In this scheme, the worker has to deposit a fixed amount every month as contribution, which is decided according to his age:

Worker's Age Monthly Contribution Government's Contribution
18 years ₹55 ₹55
29 years ₹100 ₹100
40 years ₹200 ₹200

In this, the central government will also contribute the same amount as the contribution made by the worker. That is, if you deposit ₹ 100 every month, the government will also add the same amount and a total of ₹ 200 will be deposited.

Process of joining the scheme

To join the scheme, the worker has to go to CSC (Common Service Center).

It is necessary to carry Aadhar card, mobile number and bank passbook.

A pension card is issued after registration.
