Starting September 22, 2025, India will roll out a new GST structure (GST 2.0), aimed at reducing the tax burden on essential goods and everyday purchases. To help citizens understand exactly how much they will save, the government has launched a dedicated platform called SavingsWithGST, available through MyGov India.

This new digital tool allows consumers to compare old and new GST rates instantly and calculate their savings on daily-use products, food items, and packaged essentials.

What Is the SavingsWithGST Portal?

The SavingsWithGST portal is an initiative by MyGov India designed to make GST savings transparent. Through this platform, shoppers can check the base price, the VAT-era price, and the new GST 2.0 price for the same product.

MyGov announced this feature on its official handle on X (formerly Twitter), describing it as a “Next-Generation GST experience”. By simply adding items to a virtual cart, users can see the difference in costs before and after GST reform.

How to Check Your Savings

The process is simple and user-friendly:

  1. Visit the official [savingswithgst] website.

  2. Add your preferred items to the cart.

  3. The portal will display three prices:

    • Base Price (without tax)

    • Price under VAT (old system)

    • Price under Next-Gen GST (new system)

  4. The difference will show exactly how much you save per product.

Example: Milk Price Before and After GST

For instance, if you add 1 liter of milk to the cart:

  • Base Price: ₹60

  • Price under VAT: ₹63.6

  • Price under GST 2.0: ₹60

This shows that under the new GST system, milk becomes more affordable, directly benefiting consumers.

Simplified Tax Structure Under GST 2.0

One of the biggest reforms in GST 2.0 is the simplification of tax slabs.

  • Earlier, GST had four slabs: 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%.

  • Under the new structure, there will be only two slabs: 5% and 18%.

  • A 40% special slab will apply only to luxury items and sin goods such as cigarettes and alcohol.

According to the government, this streamlined system will lower taxes on essential goods and packaged food items, making household expenses lighter.

Why This Reform Matters

The move follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech, where he emphasized tax reforms to bring relief to common citizens. With the launch of SavingsWithGST, the government aims to:

  • Provide transparency in tax benefits.

  • Reduce the burden of inflation on daily needs.

  • Empower households to track and manage their savings effectively.

Final Takeaway

The SavingsWithGST portal is more than just a calculator—it’s a tool for financial empowerment. By letting consumers check real-time savings, the government is ensuring that the benefits of GST 2.0 are visible and accessible to everyone.

From milk to packaged foods and household essentials, the new GST structure promises to bring direct relief to millions of Indian families.
