Government Announces: ₹10,000 Fine for Driving Without PUC in Delhi Starting October

Keeping the Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate updated will become mandatory in the capital, Delhi, starting October 1. Motorists who fail to do so will face a fine of ₹10,000 issued by the traffic police. Furthermore, their driving licenses could also be suspended.

The Delhi government has made a major announcement aimed at curbing rising air pollution in the capital during the winter season. Starting October 1, the government will launch a strict enforcement drive against vehicles lacking a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate. Any car or bike caught without a PUC will immediately attract a fine of ₹10,000.

The Delhi government stated that special teams comprising Transport Department officials and traffic police will be deployed at petrol pumps and major intersections to conduct rigorous checks of vehicle PUC certificates. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, drivers found without a valid PUC could face severe penalties, including a hefty fine of ₹10,000, imprisonment, or the suspension of their driving license for three months.

Update Your PUC Now to Avoid Fines

The government has urged vehicle owners to get their vehicles' pollution levels checked and obtain a valid PUC certificate in time to avoid inconvenience and heavy fines. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated an automated testing station in Burari today. Speaking on the occasion, she mentioned that the government is taking several measures to reduce pollution in Delhi.

She said, "From October 1, there will be intensive checks to verify the validity of PUC certificates. The government is ensuring that everyone in the state has access to clean air to breathe."

Cameras to be Installed at PUC Centers – CM Rekha

CM Rekha informed the media that the enforcement mechanism regarding PUC certificates will commence on October 1. To facilitate this, PUC centers will be monitored using technology. CM Rekha stated that the Delhi government is now also installing cameras at all PUC centers that issue certificates.
